WHY NOT GOD IN SCHOOL?

Back in 1776

a tyrant-king had us all in a fix

With mighty scepter and crown bejeweled

he said "in the name of God" he ruled

Alas, it’s always been this way

It’s what Saddam and bin Laden say today

Good German people gave in to this drill

when Hitler said he was doing God’s will

When Galileo gave astronomy’s best

the Church put him under house arrest

On back to the Crusades, and the Inquisition

you accepted God, or the sword’s imposition

So even though there was raging debate

our founders had to part church from state

Forcing God on people must be refused

because this "right" is so badly abused

Many believers are good

but there are those who are not

And so it is, after careful thought

you’ll find in our government places and schools

it’s spiritual freedom – not God – that rules

Each person is free, to pray or not

It’s forcing others that makes this issue hot

There’s no need for guns or bombs or fights

when there’s RESPECT FOR EVERYONE’s feelings

and rights
