9/11 – GOD NEVER HURTS PEOPLE

I believe now that all the shocks our society has experienced, and may yet experience, are useful spiritual tools. I believe that shocking occurrences, both personal and social, serve to drive us into discovery of a deeper, different reality – and that the deeper reality is nothing but GOOD.

But I think the term "wake-up call" is often misused. We’ve all seen and heard some people saying that the 9/11 attacks mean we’d better "stop sinning" and "get right with God."

However, something in me has always felt that a God who would resort to violence is not a God to be trusted. Even as a child, I felt that a God who would use such tactics was not a God to be respected – and was probably NOT the real God.

It just made sense to me that attributing violence, authoritarianism, manipulation, control, and many other unsavory characteristics to God was just that – greatly mistaken human attribution. That such a God was somebody’s (or a lot of somebodies’) misguided imagination about what God is. And it made me wonder about some adults, the ones who were teaching this.

It made me sad, and sometimes angry, that we were indeed "being given a stone (to eat), instead of a fish."

Even though it’s cold comfort, the dynamics of domestic abuse have finally been illuminated in our society – and what do we find? We find that the authoritarianism, the manipulation, and the drive for control which lead to the violence are criminal activities, NOT spiritual qualities – and I rest my case. I never have believed in a God who hurts people, and I never will.

In fact, I think it’s BECAUSE we have a screwed-up idea of God that we ourselves are prone to screw up. I believe we human beings get hurt and hurt others because we don’t know how to create events out of Love. Thus often we unknowingly, ignorantly, create UN-loving events, in our personal lives and in our society.

And then it’s not that we "get punished." It’s just that we need to observe what doesn’t work for us – to stop suffering what doesn’t work – so we can enjoy what does.

But we are so CONFUSED about what Love is. Domestic abuse dramas are highlighting the fact that many people do have the erroneous belief that someone trying to control you IS someone loving you – all the way from the subtle "I just want what’s best for you," to the outright criminal "You’ll obey me, or else!"

Certainly we do need to listen and learn, from elders for example. But a wise elder offering advice is very different from a needy human being demanding control of you. And that’s another reason I don’t buy into the old, conventional God-concept. I can’t imagine God being needy! That’s strictly an inadequate-human-being feeling – NOT an attribute of God’s eternal peace and power.

I personally have been through so many shocks this lifetime, that over and over I have been driven deep -- to figure out what’s going on. And always, ALWAYS, I am stunned to find underneath it all -- is a LOVE "that surpasses understanding."

Every time my life has seemingly STOPPED IN SHOCK at something that’s happening – and every time I have allowed myself to STAY stopped and questioning -- instead of trying to just "fix it" – I have been deeply infused with Love and Support and Peace, and even some Fun.

But when I react in the conventional way – "this shouldn’t be happening," "why me," and all of that resistance – when I try to "fix it all back the way it was" – then I not only usually just make it worse, but I miss out on that Deep Dive into Love – which only comes from true questioning and true learning.

What I’ve discovered, what I think we’re all destined to discover, whether we do it sooner or later, is that Reality is actually an Eternal and Perfect Matrix of Love. And we human beings (eternal souls) are just goofing around, experimenting, with having experiences that are out of alignment with Love. Many of us are getting really tired of this and so became seekers, feeling very driven to re-discover what we forgot – which is – Ever-Present, Unwavering Love for us.

It’s logical that we forgot it – we have no frame of reference for it on earth. No human parent is able to NOT be at least a little needy or a little controlling. This is the first "love" we know on earth, and it usually goes downhill from there.

And voila! We have life as we know it, wherein people are creating and creating, NOT from love, but from lack-of-love’s anxiety or anger or sorrow – or just unawareness – of the Eternal and Perfect Matrix of Love that's actually within us, in the midst of us – at hand.

"Seek heaven first. Heaven is within you. It is in the midst of you. It is at hand." (Not out there in the world, not off in the future.)

But in my case, I don’t experience that heaven UNTIL I STOP being sure that it’s virtuous to allow myself or my ideas to be controlled -- by someone’s or by society’s (inevitably non-loving) agenda.

As we now approach 2012 A.D., the conclusion of a 25,000-year-cycle, we have programmed ourselves to WAKE UP -- to come out of our unawareness of God, to come out of screwy ideas about God, to re-awaken our eternal and worthy souls to the Perfect Matrix of Love for us.

And so we have indeed scheduled a series of "wake-up calls." We’ve scheduled some shocks that are not punishments, but prods -- prods to question what we’ve been told, to explore what we believe, to re-evaluate many things that "we’re so sure are virtuous." And we do this not for the purpose of taking anything away, but to instead open us up to a reality which is much better!

Basically, some things will just become so unbearably disappointing in this world that we (seekers, anyway) will absolutely be driven to -- first, find the Unwavering Love Within – then second, create a new world from this Love.

The Kennedy assassination was the first big illumination of the non-loving agenda of the current, fading, world paradigm. Any of you who have read even a page or two of the accounts of witnesses who were in Dealey Plaza that day sadly know that our government’s report on it is a lie. And therefore it is known that highly placed people, supposedly our trusted public servants, did not and do not have our interests in mind.

Likewise for those of you who know that UFOs represent deep insights into universal energy, free distribution of that knowledge is also being withheld from us (probably until 2005).

Other shocks: Nixon’s Watergate and Reagan/Bush’s Iran-Contra came along, demonstrating that "law-and-order leaders" are not even moral. Clinton’s sex life showed us that intellectually brilliant men can exhibit extremely poor judgment.

O.J. Simpson revealed to us that an athletic hero and lovable movie star can be a monster. The Menendez brothers’ drama illuminated that a good-providing father can be a brute, and a loyal wife and mother can be an enabler of that brute. (Murder is not excusable – but those boys grew up totally unsafe at home.)

The televangelist cons and Catholic pedophile scandals show us that many men of God are not men of God at all. And we’re learning that politically protected corporations such as Enron operate like money-and-power-mad Feudal Lords, caring nothing about the Peasants below them, except for what they can get from them.

And that will lead to...the biggest shocks yet. That it will turn out that those same types of arrogant and reckless Insiders now leading our country are only after monetary profits and power for the few. And that the American ideals of equality, service, peace -- and yes, the American flag -- are being cynically and deceptively used to undermine those very precepts.

One example: When one little Learjet went off course in 1999 (golfer Payne Stewart), within 5 minutes, the Air Force was notified that the small passenger plane was off course. Within 20 minutes, the situation was under control, as well as it could be – the fighter jets making sure the disabled Learjet and dead crew and passengers did not crash into any population areas on the ground. This is routine.

But on September 11, 2001, four commercial airliners were allowed to wander around off course for more than an hour until they DID crash into population areas on the ground. Why were all 4 planes not routinely intercepted, as was the Learjet in 1999 (and all other such off-course flights).

It was just on CNN news that Air Force Thunderbirds are going to be inscribed with the mottoes, "Let’s roll," and "Spirit of 9/11." What kind of mockery is this, when those same Thunderbirds on September 11th were NOT sent to check out the situation and save the lives of thousands of people? The answer to this may be the Next Big Shock.

And so...in our society and in our personal lives, especially through the year 2012, we may be confronted with shock after shock. But, if you are a seeker, events will only drive you to be reminded daily, then constantly, to seek Heaven first -- within YOU, in the midst of YOU, at hand where you can reach it – and to help in the creation of a new world, based on the absolute love and support you find within.

In conclusion, I’m often reminded these days of two statements from A Course in Miracles – the finding of God as being "a journey without distance," and the reassurance that "nothing real can be threatened."

Often lately I find myself saying to the Creator, "Thank You that I am finally arriving at where You always have been – right here." And "Thank You that nothing can disrupt Your love for me – except my attention not being on it."
